Safety and privacy

Your steps are for your crew. Nothing else.

A plain summary of what WakaPals collects, who sees it and how we keep the race friendly. The full legal version is in our Terms and Privacy policy.

Your crew sees

  • Your first name, username and runner
  • Your place and steps for today (you can hide your exact count)
  • Your crew’s history and wins
  • Walk moments you post to that crew, for 24 hours

Only you see

  • Your email and last name
  • Your step goal and streaks
  • Your plan and payments
  • Which phone counts your steps

Nobody sees

  • Where you are: WakaPals never uses your location
  • Other health data, such as heart rate or sleep: we never read it
  • Your card or bank details: Apple, Google or Paystack handle payment
  • Anything from crews you are not in

What we promise

We never sell your data

Not to advertisers, not to insurers, not to anyone. WakaPals makes money from plans and the Shop.

We read steps and nothing more

We ask your health app for step counts only. Typed-in steps never count.

Moments disappear

Walk photos and videos are gone after 24 hours, and location details are removed on your phone and again on our server.

16 and up

WakaPals is for people aged 16 and over. If we find an account belongs to someone younger, we delete it.

Leave whenever you like

Delete your account in Me › Settings. Your steps, photos and profile are gone within 30 days.

You control the noise

Turn off passes, cheers and nudges, or results in Me › Settings › Notifications. Organisers can turn nudges and tomatoes off for a crew.

Someone crossed the line?

Tap their runner or name, then See their week › Report, and pick what happened. You can block them at the same time. They won’t know you reported them, and a person at WakaPals reviews every report within 24 hours.
